Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey Club needed a penalties win to get their Elite League season off to a winning start after coming back for a 2-2 draw at Dundee Stars.

At the Dundee Ice Arena tonight, the Stars took the lead on 16.20 through Matt Baxter and doubled their lead with a powerplay goal on 31.37.

Olsen had a fight with Harper who hit the deck like a sack of spuds and Olsen received penalty minutes of 2+10+5.

For the second period running the Blaze had more shots than the Stars and in the third period, they were able to turn that into goals.

Greg Leeb scored on 52:29  and Coventry were level on 54.30 with a power play goal from Mike Egener, assisted by Cowley and Smith.

That sent the game into over-time which failed to produce a winner, so the game went to penalties.

Shea Guthrie and Wirll both scored to take it to sudden death. The next four penalties were saved.

Wirll had his penalty saved but up stepped Mike Schutte who scored to give Coventry the win on penalties.

Elsewhere, Fife beat Edinburgh Capitals 2-0. Braehead beat the Belfast Giants 3-2 and NIHL Blaze drew 2-2 with Whitley Bay Warriors.
