Blaze win

Coventry Blaze are back at the top of the Elite League after a fine 5-1 victory at Newcastle Vipers tonight.

Greg Chambers set the Blaze, who celebrate their tenth anniversary tomorrow, when he scored a powerplay goal assisted by midweek signing Brad Cruickshank (pictured below) on 6.45.

Twenty three seconds later, there was more for the Blaze support who had made the 440 miles round trip to cheer when Luke Fulghum hit the second unassisted.

Two became three on 17.59 when Mattias Soderstrom scored assisted by Derek Campbell and Dan Carlson.

Newcastle pulled one back on 19.24 thanks to a goal from Matric Kracj but Blaze controlled the more with a goal in each of the next two periods.

The fourth came on 35.50 with Dan Carlson scoring on the powerplay, assisted by Fulghum and Russ Cowley before seven minutes from time, Blaze went nap when Brad Cruickshank hit his first goal for the Blaze, assisted by Brian Lee and net minder Peter Hirsch.
