Blaze Win At Sheffield

Coventry Blaze kept their slim hopes of retaining the Elite League title alive with a 3-2 victory at leaders Sheffield Steelers.

At a packed Sheffield Arena tonight, the Blaze took the lead on 11.43 when Ben O'Connor fired home assisted by Sylvain Deschatelets and Barrie Moore on a power play die to Rod Sarich being off the ice for hooking.




That was the only goal of the first period and the second saw a second goal for Paul Thompson's team. This time, it was Adam Calder on target, netting from assists by Jon Weaver and Barrie Moore again.

With Matt Soderstrom off the ice for hooking, Sheffield pulled one back through Joe Talbot on 25.39 but the two goal lead was re-stored after 31 minutes when Ben O'Connor hit his second of the night, again on a power play, assisted by Dan Carlson and Carlyle Lewis.

Jeff Legue pulled another goal back for Sheffield on 37.57 but Blaze defended valiantly to ensure they left with a victory.

On Saturday night, the Blaze travel to Manchester Phoenix before taking on the Steelers at the Sky Dome on Sunday. Face off is at 6pm and anyone planning on going is advised to get a ticket in advance.
