Blaze Win At Manchester

Coventry Blaze kept up their battle to retain the Elite League Championship with a 6-2 victory at Manchester Phoenix tonight.

Sylvain Deschatelets fired Paul Thompson's side ahead at Altrincham on 11.06 and the travelling Coventry support had another goal to cheer when Russ Cowley scored from a Barrie Moore assist on 13.11.

Two goal became three after 17.32 when Cowley turned provider for Erik Hjalmarsson.

In to the second period and there was only one goal and it went to the home side on 35.13 with Brett Clouthier pulling one back.

With Tom Watkins off the ice for two minutes for holding the stick, Adam Calder hit the fourth goal of the night for the Blaze, who face Sheffield Steelers at home tomorrow night.

Manchester went up the other end and Brett Clouthier scored a power play goal on 43.39 to make it 2-4.

With less than seven minutes left, Blaze wrapped up the match. Barrie Moore fired home on 53.24 before Russ Cowley hit his second the night to seal a 6-2 win.

Other scores saw Belfast beat Hull 8-6, Cardiff beat Newcastle 4-1 and Nottingham beat Basingstoke 3-0.
