In an intense atmosphere at the Sky Dome tonight, Coventry Blaze came back to beat Cardiff Devils 6-4 in an Elite League game.

You don't need to be able to lip read to know what Coach Paul Thompson thought as his side concede the first goal of the night to The Devils on 09.05 to Phil Hill.

With Jon Weaver missing for the Blaze, Brad Voth the biggest player in the league dominates the opening period and in front of a half full Sky Dome, the Blaze put in a poor display and let in a second goal on 16.23 when Matt Towe nets.

Games with The Cardiff Devils are always competitive and the second period lived up to this.

On 22.46, Blake Forsyth pulled one back on a powerplay from an Adam Calder assist. This was followed by an equaliser on 27.35 when Sylvain Deschatelets scored assisted by Hjalmarsson and Russ Cowley.

Blaze who have been poor on power plays then score twice in seconds, making it three on the night to go 4-2 up. Dan Carlson and Carlyle Lewis are the men on target for the Blaze.

Voth, the most talked about player in the league, receives a game ban to the head on 35.43 for sparking off a mass fight.

Paul Thompson quickly loses his smile as The Devils pull two goals back in the 38th minute through Mike Prpich and Matt Elich.

The fourth goal sees Thompson change the net minder and in goes Steve Fone. The two goal lead is restored with a goal on 38.57 from Tom Watkins and ten seconds before the end of the second period, Danny Stewart scores to put the Blaze six-four up. going into the final period.

At the break, my daughter wins the lucky seat competition and Blaze Mascot Scorcher is thrown out for cheating at ice musical chairs.

The Devils pull their net minder, playing with an extra player for the minute but failed to score and the Blaze won an ugly game 6-4 with Lewis the enforcer the man of the match. Lewis was branded "a chicken" at the end of the game but his response of offering all the Cardiff players out for a fight was not taken up by any of them.

Steve Fone had a good game and Paul Thompson must be tempted to start with him for the remaining matches.

Next Saturday, the Blaze travel to Basingstoke Bisons before facing Belfast Giants at the Sky Dome on Sunday. Face off is at 6pm.
