Blaze Start 2014 With A Defeat

Coventry Blaze were beaten 5-3 by Nottingham Panthers in Nottingham today.

Nottingam were ahead after 42 seconds through David Clarke and less than a minute later, Matt Francis made it two.

In the sixth minute, Cale Tanaka fed Ryan Ginand to pull a goal back before the Blaze lost Kevin Harvey for throwing punches

On the powerplay, Eric Werne scored with a deflected shot for a third and a fourth came on 31.15 when Francis found the net.

Harvey pulled one back before he was booted out of the game as the Blaze had a penalty shot which was saved by Conway from Ashley Tait.

Benedict hit a fifth with just under two minutes of the third period gone and although Ginand scored on the powerplay in the 46th minute, the Blaze who had Mike Egener given a game ban and Ben Olson thrown out for 'butt-ending', the Blaze went down to defeat.
