Blaze Start 2013 With A Win

Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey team beat Sheffield Steelers 5-3 tonight at the Sky Dome.

On 2.54, the Blaze were ahead when Ross Venus scored, assisted by Matt Selby & Josh Bruce. 

Then Sheffield hit back with three goals in the space of five minutes. Tyler Michel netted on 4.34, then Lee Esders put the Steelers ahead with Jeff Legue scoring a powerplay goal on 8.59 to make it 3-1 to the visitors.

On 10.42, Brad Leeb pulled one back, assisted by Greg Leeb and James Griffin.

The Blaze trailed for twenty minutes before Dustin Cameron had the Coventry fans on their feet when he scored, assisted by Russ Cowley and Mike Beleskey.

The American was in his last game for the Blaze and signed off with an unassisted penalty shot goal on 39.25 to have Coventry back in front.

Beleskey's evening, which included a great send off from the Blaze support, came to a crescendo on 59.07 when he got onto an assist by Mike Egner and scored an empty net goal to give the Blaze a 5-3 win.
