Coventry Blaze were sent crashing out of the Challenge Cup with a 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Panthers this afternoon.

At the Nottingham Arena which last night staged the Carl Froch fight, ice hockey was the name of the game and Coventry Blaze were first to score in this Challenge Cup tie.

Russ Cowley was the man who scored on 9.29 when he fired home from an assist by Luke Fulghum.

However, the Panthers equalised from a four on four through Nick Toneys on 18.04.

The second period was very even with neither side being able to gain any advantage so it was all square going into the third period.

That period remained level until 54.37 when Marty Gascon was left unmarked at the back post.

Just before the end with Peter Hirsh who had a fine game having been pulled, Sean McAslen scored to give Nottingham a 3-1 victory and send the Blaze out of the Challenge Cup.
