Coventry Blaze made it a weekend double when they beat Belfast Giants 5-4 tonight.

Having won in Belfast last night, the teams met in the Sky Dome which saw fairy lights above the players tunnel and a festive feel which was captured with the Blaze in shiny Christmas shirts.

The home support who had helped to decorate the Sky Dome did not have to wati too long for the first goal of the night and it was Derek Campbell who put Coventry ahead on 1.21, assisted by Luke Fulghum and Russ Cowley.

A second goal followed on 3.50 when Jason Robinson scored. Belfast, through Pat Bateman pulled one back on 12.44 but the two goal lead was restored on 15.22 when Luke Fulghum scored a powerplay goal.

The second period failed to trouble the scorers and so it was onto the third.

Colin Shields made it 2-3 on 43.35 and on 50.41, Pat Batemen tied the game. To the horror of the Blaze fans, the visitors then wnet 4-3 up when Tom Walsh scored on 51.29.

The Blaze hit back and it was Adam Calder who equalised on 55.24, assisted by Cowley and Robinson.

This sent the match into over-time and with 1.16 gone, Adam Calder scored to give the Blaze fans some Christmas cheer and give Coventry a 5-4 over-time victory.
