Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey went down to a 5-2 defeat against Cardiff Devils tonight

Due to the bad snow in Coventry, Cardiff Devils were late getting to the Sky Dome and the match, which was recorded by Sky TV, did not start until fifty minutes after the advertised start time of 7.45pm.

Not that the delay bothed the visitors who took the lead on 5.11 through Matt Millar who hit a second on 17.26 with a powerplay goal.

Coventry came back, 32 seconds in the second period when Luke Fulghum scored assisted by Jon Weaver and Dan Carlson.

Cardiff enforcer Brad Voth who had incurred five penalty minutes for fighting in the first period, had a twenty minute (game) ban plus five minutes penalty for elbowing and with the advantage, Brian Lee levelled on 27.20, assisted by Russ Cowley and Danny Stewart.

In a poor third period for the Blaze, Cardiff went back in front on 42.39 when Mark Smith scored and eight minutes later, Phil Hill fired home a fourth.

Some of the Blaze fans had already left and with fifty seconds remaining, the visitors went nap with Wes Jarvis finding the back of the net and sparking a mass walkout of disgruntled Blaze fans.

They missed Brad Cruickshank and Derek Campbell being ejected for fighting  with penalties for Richardson, Symonds and Robinson as abad night ended on a sour note.

On Saturday, the Blaze travel to Nottingham Panthers before taking on Edinburgh Capitals at the Sky Dome on Sunday.
