Coventry Blaze were beaten 4-3 in over-time at Manchester Phoenix tonight.

Needing as many victories as possible to have any chance of catching Sheffield Steelers at the top of the Elite League table, Paul Thompson's side got off to the worst possible start at Altrincham when Adam Walker fired Phoenix ahead on 8.37.

Just less than five minutes later, it was 2-0 to the hom side when David Beauregard on a power play after Matty Soderstrom was binned for two minutes for roughing, scored.

Paul Thompson let his side have it with both barrels at the break and in the second period, Adam Calder pulled one back on 24.30, assisted by Weaver and Deschalets.

However, exactly half way through the match, Kyle Bruce went up the other end and found the net to put Manchester 3-1 up.

The Blaze, who are at home to Cardiff Devils tonight (Sunday 6pm), played some good hockey in the third period and the travelling support had something to cheer about on 46.23 when Adam Calder fired home his second of the night from an assist by Erik Hjamarsson.

They were going ballistic when on 56.20, Dan Carlson tied the game scoring from a Deschalets and Weaver assist but sixty three seconds in to over-time, Kenton Smith scored to give Manchester the win.
