Coventry Blaze went down to a 4-2 defeat at Nottingham Panthers tonight.

All the media attention had been about Carolina Hurricanes forward Anthony Stewart, signed for the Panthers on a month contract due to an NHL lock-out, and the Blaze fans who had travelled to Nottingham saw him ice for the Panthers against a Blaze side which included new signing Mike Bayrack in a match which saw the puck dropped some thirteen minutes late.

Stewart was involved in the opening goal when he helped set up a goal for Robert Lachowicz on 12.56.

Into the second and Bruce Graham made it 2-0 on 26.07 with a powerplay goal.

On 30.15, it was three when Brandon Benedict found the net, assisted by Graham and right wing David Ling.

Eight minutes later, the home fans were going mad when Anthony Stewart scored although his shot deflected off Olsen's stick.

The third period, saw Nottingham have a goal ruled out by referee Hicks before Brad Leeb pulled one back on 46. 27 with a powerplay goal assisted by Greg Leeb and Mick Schutte.

Mike Bayrack scored his first goal for the Blaze on 57.24 but it did not stop Coventry going down to a 4-2 defeat.
