Blaze Lose Challenge Cup Opener

Coventry Blaze were beaten 4-2 at the Sky Dome tonight by Sheffield Steelers in their opening Challenge Cup Group B fixture.

The Blaze trailed to a Steelers goal on 1.59 from Phillips, assisted by Hewitt & Spencer and conceded a second on 7.39 when Meyers scored assisted by hillips and Spencer.

On 17.42, Sheffield scored a third through Stefan Meyer, assisted by Thomas and Phillips.

Before the first period ended, the Blaze had a goal back on the powerplay when Ryan Ginand scored assisted by Adam Henrich, who further reduced the arrears when he scored an unassisted goal seven seconds into the second period, also on the powerplay.

The Blaze could not get back into the match and on 45.34, Jeff Legue scored, assisted by Spencer and Kohn to condemn the Blaze, who travel to Dundee tomorrow, to a 4-2 defeat.
