Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey team went down to a 4-2 defeat in the Charity Shield tonight against Belfast Giants.

At the Sky Dome tonight, Coventry named a strong side plus all their two way players whilst Belfast arrived without Hoffman, Benedict and Walton.

It was Belfast who opened the scoring through Welch on 10.22. Jeff Smith and Gleed had the first fight of the new season on 17.13 as Belfast ended the half a goal up and having 14 shots to Coventry's 6.

More pressure from Belfast in the second period resulted in Peacock hitting a second on 22.34 with netminder Brett Jaeger well beaten.

Six minutes later on 28.17, Luke Fulghum pulled one back, assisted by Dan Carlson and Jon Weaver.

The goal lifted Paul Thompson's side and on 49.32, Coventry were level thanks to Jon Weaver finding the net, assisted by Owen Fussey and Arron Nell.

Jaeger made a terrific quadruple save but could not stop Belfast from taking the victory on 54.27 with a goal from Prudden and another fifteen seconds from time through Seeley when Jaeger had been pulled.

Coventry Blaze are away to Cardiff Devils on Saturday night and at home to Tilburg on Sunday.
