Blaze Beaten At Cardiff

Coventry Blaze are out of the Challenge Cup after a 3-2 defeat at Cardiff tonight.

At the Cardiff Bay Arena, Blaze were at full strength for this Challenge Cup Group B match where they needed a very big win but were a goal down when Brad Voth scored an unassisted goal after only 48 seconds.

They equalised on 3.23 thanks to Greg Owen finding the net from assists by Luke Fulghum and Greg Chambers.

On 13.30, Cardiff, who were having most of the chances, were back in front as Jay Latulippe netted with a tap in at the back post, assisted by Matt Miller and Phil Hill.

In to the second period and the Blaze were being stretched as Cardiff continued to attack. But on 37.01, with the Blaze short handed, they equalised when Adam Calder hit his 200th goal for Coventry, unassisted to delight the fifty travelling Blaze fans.

Blaze kept fighting and finished the period having had 13 shots to Cardiff's 11.

They kept at Cardiff despite having on three players on the ice to Cardiff's four and when the home side did find the net through Birbraer, it was ruled out.

In the last minute, Blaze coach Paul Thompson pulled net minder Peter Hirsch and Cardiff scored through Jay Latulippe who tapped in after a shot from Phil Hill had hit the post for the winner.

On Saturday night, the Blaze travel to Newcastle Vipers.

Coventry Blaze will wear a specially commissioned Halloween shirt for the home game against Cardiff Devils on Sunday night.

The shirts worn by the players plus two blood shirts, numbers 15 & 23(which will be supplied with the winner's choice of name bar), 16 Jack Watkins and 10 Tom Ledgard's jersey will also be available with 00 Scorch and 1 Dalziel, will be available via an auction which starts in the morning.

Bids can be placed anytime between 9am tomorrow (Thursday 29th) and the end of the second interval of Sunday's game.

The minimum bid on any shirt is £50 or you can buy one for £100. You must pay in full if you wish to buy a shirt for £100.

Payment can be made by cash, cheque, credit card or paypal and if payment is made in full by the end of the game on Sunday, supporters can collect their shirts after the game.
