In last nights Craven shield match at Wolverhamptons Monmore green stadium, the Coventry Bees were defeated by the Wolves 53 points to 37. This was the Bees first derby defeat since June 2006.

With the Wolves riders winning each of the 1st 7 heats and gaining the early momentum, the Bees were always up against getting a result after that. Their starts improved in the second half of the meeting but by then the damage had been done.

The Bees scores from the night were:

Chris Harris 9
Billy Janniro 8+1
Rory Schlein 7+1
Olly Allen 7+1
Simon Stead 5
Andreas Messing 1
Stanislaw Burza 0

Captain Chris Harris commented after the match
"The team couldn't get going tonight, we couldn't get out of the start and we weren't riding the track like it should have been ridden, so the better team won on the night.

"It's early days so we'll keep plugging away and hope the boys can learn from this and we can start winning again, and there's no doubt we'll be having a talk before Friday's meeting."

Friday sees the Wolverhampton side take to the Brandon shale with the match starting at the usual time of 7.45pm for the riders parade.
