Bees keep it close in Manchester

At Belle Vue tongith the Bees took on the Aces in the first leg of the knockout cup round quarter final seeking to keep the margin as close as possible with the second leg at Brandon this friday.

Jason Crump led the way in the 1st heat in the fastest time of the night but the 2 point heat advantage to the Aces was followed by another in heat 3, which saw Bees Billy Janniro fall at the first corner and retired from the race.

Drawn heats followed in the next 5 heats with heat 7 seeing Billy Janniro wirhdraw from the meeting after lengthy treatment from the track doctor, following him laying his bike down in order to miss Belle Vue's Nick Simmonds who had fallen.

A 5-1 and 4-2 for the Aces in heats 9 and 10 saw the scoreline stretch out to 35-25 which allowed the Bees to use Chris Harris to good effect in heat 11 ina double points scoring heat win, reducing at a stroke the deficit to 5 points.

whilst the Aces gained a heat 13 victory to add another 2 points to the Bees deficit, a Bees 5-1 in heat 14 brought the score to 45-42 with the final race to go. The Aces number 1 Jason Crump yet again led the way but the 4-2 heat win ensured that the nights final score of 49-44 to the Aces gives the Bees every chance of progressing on friday night.
