Coventry Bees made up for losing to Peterborough Panthers this morning by beating them 49-41 at Brandon tonight.

A depleted Coventry side had Rory Schlein, Danny King and James Holder in their team for this Elite League match at Brandon which they needed to win.

Schlein and Kenni Larsen went up against Nicki Pedersen and Buczkowski in the opening heat. Schlein got round Pedersen on the second lap to prevent a 5-1 but Buczkowski won and it was 4-2 to Peterborough.

Nick Morris and James Holder rode in heat two but Peterborough with North and Gomolski gated well and held on for a 5-1, making it 9-3 to the visitors.

Heat three saw King and Fisher gate well. King was caught napping and Sundstrom took him on the third lap, only for Ryan Fisher to get his lead back just before the tape and the Bees had a 4-2.

Larsen and Morris went in heat four, Peterborough started well but Gomolski lost it a bit and this allowed Larsen into second on the second lap and it was a 4-2 for Peterborough who needed to win by more than six points to keep their play-off hopes alive.

Danny King and Fisher were the Bees riders in heat five and both riders got into the lead. King had the race under control and the Bees won it 5-1 to make it 14-16.

In heat six, Schlein and Larsen went for the Bees. Larsen got down the back straight on the opening lap to take down the lead ahead of Troy Bachelor and with Schlein in third, the Bees, who were eighth in the table going into the meeting, levelled the match at 18-18,

King and Holder rode in heat seven. King got into second behind Sundstrom with Jesper Jensen in third and Peterborough were back in front with a 4-2.

Fisher and King went in a re-started heat nine after there was contact in the first heat. The rain was starting to come down as Ryan Fisher went down from what looked like the result of North being in a sandwich and the main on the end went down. All four riders were back as Batchelor on his 24th birthday took the lead followed by Fisher and King. North's bike packed up as the heat finished 3-3.

Schlein, who hurt his wrist this morning in the 54-40 defeat, and Larsen were back for heat ten. Coventry resident Schlein shot away, followed by Sundstrom for a 4-2 for Coventry.

Going into Heat 11, the Bees led 32-28 and Schlein went again with Holder. Three times World Champion Nicki Pedersen led Schlein with Buczkowski in third to give the Panthers a 4-2.

Nick Morris and Ryan Fisher rode really well in heat twelve for a 5-1 to put the Bees six points ahead.

Fisher went again in heat thirteen along side Rory Schlein. Fisher went down on the second bend under contact from Pedersen. All four riders were back for the re-run which saw Fisher go down straight after the restart.

For a third time, Fisher went down again clipped by Pedersen who was excluded, much to the disgust of the Peterborough team boss.

Schlein got a great start but Troy Batchelor got into the second and it was a 4-2 for Coventry,

King and Morris got to the front in heat fourteen and a 5-1 won the meeting but the Bees 48-36 ahead.

The final heat saw Ryan Fisher who had ten points from his five rides was disqualified after problems with his bike which saw him exclude the two minute time limit for a second time.

The rain was coming down forcing Pedersen to change his goggles but eventually, Batchelor and Pedersen went against Danny King. The guest tried to chase down Pedersen in second but Peterborough won 5-1 in a meeting that finished 49-41 to Coventry Bees.

The Bees are now sixth in the Elite league table and travel to Swindon on Thursday before taking on Eastbourne at home on Friday and then away on Saturday.
