At Smallmead this evening the Coventry Bees visited the home of the Reading Racers, 7 days after a thumping 57-36 home victory against the same opposition.

With rider replacement again being used to cover the absence of the injured Olly Allen, the Bees welcomed back Rory Schlein into the starting line up after his recent illness.

The first 6 heats were quite tight with the Bees being 4 points ahead after these 6 races. However the pressure was piled onto the Racers in the middle part of the meeting with the next 5 heats producing some good Coventry scores to finish heat 11 with the Bees 12 points ahead at 27-39.

This enabled Reading to use the tactical ride rule to their advantage by clawing back 3 points in the next heat, but with heats 13 and 15 having Scott Nicholls and Chris 'Bomber' Harris in for the Bees the advantage was maintained ensuring that they ran out winners by 49 points to 44.

With tonights live Sky match of Ipswich V Poole being rained off the Bees win, along with the bonus point, moves the them firmly into 2nd place in the Elite League 2 points ahead of Poole, and 6 points behind leaders Swindon with 3 matches in hand.

Top scorers for the Bees tonight were Scott with 13 from his 5 rides, and Bomber with 10+2 from his 6 rides.

On the same night as England take on Germany at Wembley, the Bees travel south to the Purfleet home of Arena Essex, with the return league match against Arena at Brandon on bank holiday monday.
