Coventry Bees beat Poole 47-43 in a thrilling meeting at Brandon on Friday night.

The Bees had Arron Summers and Simon Lambert guesting along with Joe Jacobs and went down to a 4-2 in the opening heat with a win for Darcy Ward, who went on to take a maximum from all of his five rides.

After a 3-3, Chris Harris and Michael Jepsen Jensen had the Bees ahead with a 5-1 which was followed by a 3-3 and Anderson and Harris taking a 5-1.

Four more 3-3's and a 4-2 to the Bees saw them eight points up at the interval. The Bees did not win another heat for the rest of the meeting with three 3-3's and two 4-2's to Poole but were still able to take a superb 47-43 victory.

Bees boss Gary Havelock said to his team's website: “What I liked about tonight was that we came out strongly from the start again, as we did last week, and we seemed to be in some form of control for most of the meeting.

“It would have been nice to have taken all three points, but when you have someone like Darcy Ward in the away team you have to say that he definitely is something special.

“We’re level with the play-off places now, but when you look at a couple of the teams there they are home-heavy – very good at home but not so good away, and I think as the season pans out our away form will help us get a top four spot.”
