Derby led 32-6 at half time but Coventry put in a much better second half to bring the score back to 32-30.
However, Derby finished the strong to win the match.
On Saturday, Coventry will look to get back to winning ways when they travel to Aston Old Edwardians Rugby Club in Perry Common to face Birmingham Bulldogs.
