Coventry City Ladies battled well but were beaten 2-0 by a very strong Arsenal side in a pre-season game.

Former City Lady Laura Harvey brought her strongest available team to Sphinx Drive to face the Sky Blues. Only Faye White who was on commentary duty, Fleeting who was on international duty were not included in the Arsenal side.

Sarah Morgan in the City goal was soon earning her keep, denying Carter and Kim Little either side of three early corners for the North Londoners.

Paul Cudby's side who will be playing their league matches at Bedworth United, worked well trying to not concede too much possession to the Women's FA Cup holders. Morgan saved from Yvonne Tracy on the half hour mark.

In the 34th minute, Arsenal came even closer when Jayne Ludlow sent a stunning twenty five yarder onto the crossbar.

Laura Bruton headed over, Carter fired wide when offside and Nobbs fired across the area before the opening half ended.

City changed things round at the break. Nobbs had the first shot of the second half as the wind started to swirl around Sphinx Drive.

In the 55th minute, Arsenal finally took the lead when Danielle Carter rose to head home past Sue Wood from a right wing cross.

Wood made two good stops but could nothing as Jayne Ludlow powerfully headed in a corner from twenty yards with eight minutes to go.

Kim Farrow fired wide for City but it was Arsenal who resume their WSL season next week, who left with a 2-0 win.
