Battling Blaze Lose In 15 Goal Thriller

Coventry Blaze came from 7-2 down to lose 8-7 in a thrilling game at Edinburgh Capitals tonight.

Around fifty Blaze fans travelled to Edinburgh but they could not believe what they were watching as The Capitals took a three goal lead thanks to one from Simon Lambert and a brace from Jeff Hutchins.

A fourth goal soon from Owen Fussey followed before Dan Welch had the Scottish side 5-0 up with twelve minutes gone, against a Blaze side with only three defencemen..

Mat Soderstrom set up Greg Chambers to give the Blaze support some joy and just before the end of the opening period, Adam Calder's shot got through a crowded zone and into the net past Cody Rudkowsky's pad and arm to leave the Blaze 5-2 down at the end of the first period.

Four minutes into the second period, Edinburgh added a sixth thanks to Michael Benyon reacting first to a rebound after a Welch shot had been saved by Tom Murdy.

The misery continued as Ben O'Connor fired into the top of the net for a power play goal on 34.37.

Blaze went for it big time in the third period. Jon Weaver scored to make it 3-7 and on 48.52, Adam Calder hit a fourth goal.

With 7.38 remaining, Jon Weaver hit his second of the night to see the Blaze now only two goals down.

Four minutes of Blaze pressure followed before Greg Chambers fired in a short handed goal.

It was 7-6 to Edinburgh so Paul Thompson pulled Net Minder Murdy. Edinburgh made the most of this chance and Welch scored

With 43 seconds left back came the Blaze to make it 7-8 through Derek Campbell but Edinburgh held on to win.
