The famed Brandonapolis individual meeting took place at Coventry speedway tongight with a line up that included Jason Crump, Nicki Pedersen, Leigh Adams as well as Coventry's own Chris Harris, Rory Schlein and Edward Kennett.
Raced over 20 qualifying heats where each rider has 5 starts, the top 2 scorers on the night progress to the final heat, whilst the next 4 highest scorers contest a semi-final where the top 2 move into the final.
On a track that had survived the earlier downpours over Coventry & Warwickshire the meeting went ahead, with Jason Crump and Hans Andersen setting the early pace which they maintained to book the top 2 final berths.
Of the remaining riders Chris Harris and Nicki Pedersen scored well to get into the semi-final (11 and 10 points respectively) whilst Scott Nicholls joined Niels Kristian Iversen and Coventry's Rory Schlein on 9 points. Scott missed out on the semi-final place by virtue of only having won one heat compared to the others two.
The semi-final produced a Coventry 1-2 as Chris Harris led from the gate whilst Rory had to pass Nicki Pedersen, who later suffered his second engine failure of the night.
So the final was to be contested between Jason Crump, Hans Andersen, Chris Harris and Rory Schlein. As could be expected, no quarter was likely to be given and so it proved when a hard first corner from Rory forced all the riders wide, and the hard charging Chris Harris fell going into the next bend.
Sadly this fall resulted in an exclusion for Chris, as the re-run saw a battle between Rory Schlein and Jason Crump which allowed Hans Andersen to pass them both and lead the way to win the meeting. The Schlien/Crump battle continued to the point where an attempt by Rory to pass Jason resulted in a coming together which Jason did well to hold. However this incident caused Jason to suffer an engine failure which left second place on the night for Rory.
