U18's Start With A Win

COVENTRY CITY U18's 2-0 SHEFFIELD UNITED BY KEV MONKS

Coventry City U18's kicked off their 2007/08 campaign was a friendly win at home to Sheffield United.

Greg Rioch's side without the injured Matty West soaked up the early pressure on a rain soaked morning at the Alan Higgs Centre.

But in the 21st minute conceded a penalty. Callum Burgess was accused of a shove and referee Richard Cooke awarded a penalty.

Neil Collett who performed well for the reserves on Tuesday,made a superb stop to keep the scores level.

Lead by Liam Francis and Liam Robinson,a hard working City side upped the tempo.

In the 33rd minute,a sublime through ball by Robinson found Reis Ashraf inside the area. The striker was hauled down by his marker and Mr Cooke again awarded a penalty.

Ashraf sent his kick high into the centre of the net to put the Sky Blues ahead.

This was the only goal of a game which saw City put some nice passing moves together with Bradley Jones working well in defence alongside Richie,Cain and Fitzharris.
First year Trainee Shaun Fraser on his debut also played well.
