Try It From Our Viewpoint

Coventry City Managing Director Paul Fletcher was today urged to try seeing the game and matchday experience from a Coventry City supporters viewpoint.

The MD who took over as MD at the Sky Blues after playing for Burnley and having been involved with the construction side of things at the Reebok Stadium plus Wembley Stadium and the Arena which opened late, costing the club around half a million. Since his appointment, the MD has been forced to deal with supporters with so far very mixed results.

One way for Fletcher to gain a better understanding of what it is like to be a Coventry City supporter, would be to try the match going experience himself.
Starting first by getting a ticket either in person or over the phone, often a problematic experience, especially since the move to the Arena with the terminals and phone-lines often being down.

Then come matchday, he can park the car in an area of our historic city such as Tile Hill or Stoke and get the bus or drive to one of the park and hike sites. Or possibly paying £10 to park in Car Park C. For the full effect, this needs to be done forty five to thirty minutes before kick off.
At half-time ,he can queue up for the toilets then get something to eat plus find out the half-time score, let's see how much of the second half he misses.

At the final whistle,he can have the pleasure of fighting his way through the queues to get out of the car park and then picking his way through the traffic to try and get home.

If Mr Fletcher has not learned enough about what we have to endure in the name of supporting Coventry City from a home game, he can always try an away one. Yet again,it will be a no privilege experience and our trip in March to Southampton could provide an interesting insight into what we have to go through.

Getting a ticket through the usual channels plus having waited until the tickets go on general sale as he is not a season ticket holder or member. Then he can book on the club coach from the ground,(paying the non-members price of course) which he'll have to reach again by parking in an outlying area and using public transport to get to the Arena and meet the coach.

He can go through the steward searches and pay the prices for food and drink we have to,watch the game and then get the coach back afterwards wherever it is parked.

Arriving back in the city which he has only known as one that pays his wages, he can then try to get back to his vehicle either by hailing a taxi or waiting for a bus and then another in town. It's a shame that there are no more midweek away games left as he could have enjoyed the nightmare of trying to get a taxi home from the Arena at some ungodly hour.

Now for one minute, we dont expect Mr Fletcher to actually do this but if he is sincere in his statements about improving the match-day experience,at least he'd be clued up on what we actually go through to follow the Sky Blues and how better to improve the experience.

Talk about this on our message board.
