Trust Offer Help For Disabled Supporters

The Sky Blue Trust has said that it wants to assist disabled Coventry City supporters who are concerned about how they will get to the new Arena for next seasons home matches.

200 disabled car parking spaces have already been specially designated at the Arena, and disabled supporters who have their own transport will no doubt be making use of these facilities.

However, the Trust is interested in hearing from any disabled fan who is concerned about the travel arrangements. Over the past year, the Trust has been working in partnership with Arena Coventry Ltd and Coventry City Football Club to develop the Sky Blues Supporters Bus Scheme.

This will involve the provision of buses on 11 routes covering virtually every district of Coventry. There will be pick-up and drop-off points in the vicinity of 70 pubs and clubs that have registered their interest in the scheme. Whilst this travel initiative might be suitable for some disabled supporters, the Trust recognizes that it may not be suitable for everyone.

Lionel Bird, Arena Transport Director for the Trust, said “ I am particularly concerned about disabled supporters who have concerns about traveling to the Arena. The transport initiative we have set up will help some of them, but there may be a necessity for a special service which can collect others from home. I have had preliminary talks with Mike De Courcey Travel to discuss the possibility of introducing such a dedicated service. We need to find out if there is a demand for this and to determine the number of people who would benefit”.

Any disabled supporter who would like further information about the schemes should contact Lionel Bird on 07913-344121.
