Coventry City Reserves earned a 2-1 win in a friendly at Chesterfield.

With City's reserve team game at Arsenal postponed due to the Gunners FA Youth Cup involvement,City Reserves travelled to Saltergate for a lunch time friendly.

Alan Cork named two trailists - a Polish right winger called Mario (could not find out his surname) and an American striker whose surname was Collina in a side that also saw run-outs for Adie Williams and Clayton Ince, whist Roy McFarland's side saw former Sky Blue Paul Watson given a trial

With Micky Adams watching in the wooden Main Stand at Saltergate,Liam Davis won a corner in the opening minute with an six yard shot that drew a good save by the Chesterfield keeper.

The next corner for the Sky Blues came in the seventh minute and produced the opening goal.

Kevin Thornton who was as lively as ever, took the flag kick sent the ball deep into the six yard box where the unmarked Collina,Dele Adebola without the height, swept the ball into the net.

Clayton Ince was in good form in goal and got down to save a volley in the 13th minute.

Play was mainly in the midfield but the League one side were able to win three corners.

In the 38th minute,Kevin Thornton raced upfield before being brought down. The young Irishman took the free kick but curled his kick straight at the keeper.

Just before the break,Ince got down to make an excellent save from a volley by the Spirites number sixteen.

City doubled their tally two minutes into the second half. Kevin Thornton took a corner and delivered the ball to the penalty spot. Craig Reid, who had been on the bench for the first team game versus Millwall on Saturday, hooked the ball with his right foot and sent it over the keeper and into the net.

Chesterfield pulled one back six minutes later when Tcham N'Toya raced through and hit a shot from sixteen yards and went past the wrong footed Ince and into the net.

Alan Cork made a switch on the hour mark, taking off Mario (super he wasn't!) and bringing on Vijay Sidhu.

He had to make another change four minutes later when Thornton went off as a precaution following a meaty tackle.

Ince made his third good save with twenty minutes left, diving to his left to concede the first of three corners.

City's last good chance of the match, came in the 75th minute. Collina raced onto a ball from Stuart Wall who had a solid game at centre half. The Chesterfield keeper came racing out to block the ball and then saved when the rebound fell for Reid.

A late saving header from Wall gave the home side a corner as City held on to win.
