IPSWICH TOWN RESERVES 2-0 COVENTRY CITY RESERVES BY KEV MONKS

A poor performance saw City Reserves beaten 2-0 at Ipswich Town.

On a bitterly cold night at Portman Road,Alan Cork fielded a side that was without leading goal scorer Craig Reid who had picked up a hamstring injury during the defeat at Leicester last week and made a late change bringing in Rikki Bains for Stuart Wall.

City had beaten Ipswich 4-0 earlier in the month but were a goal down after seventy seconds when the ball was cut back for Darryl Knights on the edge of the area who drove a right footed shot low past the diving Tuffey.

Micky Adams was in the crowd of around 300 and watched on as a ninth minute Luke Webb shot forced Lewis Price into a save with a low drive.

Ipswich managed by Steve McCall were straight back on the attack and it took a brilliant one handed save by Tuffey to stop a close range Liam Trotter header from putting the home side further ahead in the 14th minute

Vijay Sidhu and Ange Lourougnon led the attack for City and six minutes later,Sidhu was brought down on the right. Liam Davis delivered a kick which Price palmed over.

Luke Webb limped off in the 21st minute and seconds later,Tuffey, who is on standby for Northern Ireland U21's made another fine save, this time with his feet from a point blank Billy Clarke effort.

In pouring rain, the home side were relying on the experience of their play maker Jim Magilton. The Northern Irish international needed stopping and one attempt saw Liam Davis cautioned.

On the stroke of half-time,Ipswich went further ahead when Chris Casement headed home a Magilton corner.

Rikki Bains was booked early in the second half before the centre half headed over from a 55th minute Davis corner after Stuart Ainsley sliced over his own bar.

Billy Clarke fired over after breaking through before Aza Ogarro went close with a long ranger.

Ogarro was replaced in the 66th minute along with Ange Lourougnon. Stuart Wall and Dales Jones came on with Ben Turner moving to centre forward.

City toiled away without creating anything of note whilst the home side saw an 83rd minute Billy Clarke curler graze the far post.

Deep in stoppage time,Bains headed over a corner which was cleared up to Ben Turner who won a corner. Davis took the kick, debutant Dale Jones got in a diving header but Casement was on his own goal-line to clear.
