COVENTRY CITY RESERVES 3-4 CHESTERFIELD X1 BY KEV MONKS

Coventry City Reserves went down to their first defeat in eight matches with a 4-3 home defeat against Chesterfield.

Alan Cork's All Stars as Don Hutchison has nickname the side after a very strong team was fielded at Leicester last week, was a bit more youthful seven days later with three U18's players making the starting line up.

The Spirites side was managed by former Sky Blue Steve Hodge with their first team boss Roy McFarland also in attendance.

City's first attack came in the seventh minute when Matt Heath slammed a Kev Thornton free kick into the side netting.

Chesterfield made the most of the chances in the first period and took the lead in the 31st minute when their number ten Colin Larkin kept his cool to beat the advancing Gonzalez.

Two minutes later,Chesterfield went further ahead when Jamie Jackson was pulled down by Ryan Lynch and a penalty was awarded by referee Mike Bingham. Shane Nicholson stepped up and beat Gonzalez on his right side.

Chesterfield were obviously struggling for kit as their keeper had number 21 Fulop on his back and players were wearing shirts with numbers on their back which bore no resemblance to their names.. The young keeper did make a good catch from an Andy Gooding free kick straight after the restart.

With David Burtoft on for Thornton, City tried to get back into the game. Lee Hildreth nearly scored in the 58th minute when he nodded a Burtoft cross inches wide of the goal.

On the hour mark, the Sky Blues reduced the arrears when centre half Andy Whing was first to an Andy Gooding corner and powered home a header from close range.

Chesterfield hit back within two minutes. Jamie Jackson again went down the right and crossed for Reuben Wiggins Thomas to score.

In the 65th minute,City scored again. This time,Ryan Lynch cut inside and danced his way past three defenders to tap into the net.

Chesterfield had only arrived with eleven players borrowed City youngster Liam Robinson and scored their fourth in the 75th minute when Jamie Jackson was allowed space inside the six yard box after skipping through to beat Gonzalez on his near post.

With ten minutes to go, Andy Gooding capped a fine performance when he advanced in to the penalty area from a lovely cross by Burtoft and finished well from seven yards.

It set up a grandstand finish but City could not find a way through and went down to defeat.
