Ricoh Arena top boss Daniel Gidney has chaired a Local Enterprise Partnership meeting aimed at encouraging more tourism in Coventry & Warwickshire.

The partnership voted for the setting up of a single web portal to cover tourism in the whole of Coventry & Warwickshire and a number of "Big Weekend" aimed at encouraging people to stay in the City and County for longer.

Speaking to the CT, Mr Gidney said; "It was a very good meeting. We had a wide range of representatives from attractions, accommodation providers, local authorities and transport companies because for this to work we need total buy in.

"It is clear that there is confusion from customers and some cynicism from those involved in the industry. We have to correct both of those.

"A major aspiration has to be to market our attractions well enough as an area to encourage people to turn a day trip into an overnight stay and there was an unanimous feeling that we have the potential for that.

"We want to make it easier for customers and at the moment, there is no single website that lists all the accommodation providers across Coventry & Warwickshire.

"As a result, they will see precious little joined up thinking across the area and that has to change. There are half a dozen tourist websites in Stratford alone.

"There has to be one over-arching portal into which others feed so that potential visitors have one port of call. That would link off to other attractions, accommodations and travel arrangements. I have been tasked with ensuring that happens."
