A campaign has been set up by the Coventry Ambassadors and Coventry & Warwickshire First to try and fast track plans for a railway station at the Ricoh Arena as part of a North/South rail link in Coventry.

The two groups are hoping to persuade the Government Transport Secretary Lord Adonis to speed up the delayed NUCKLE (Nuneaton - Coventry - Kenilworth - Leamington) scheme for which the department has provisionally agreed to find £12m towards the first phase of the scheme.

According to the Coventry Telegraph, Phase One would see an improved passenger service between Nuneaton and Coventry with a new station at Bermuda Park, Nuneaton, and a new bay platform at Coventry station with phase two providing a direct link to Leamington and Stratford via a new Kenilworth station.

The paper also says that 'The Department for Transport says it is considering the scheme alongside other West Midlands projects, and full approval could enable building work to start any time before 2014.'
