Date For Coventry Made Olympic Torch To Start its Journey

The Olympic Torch, will be lit on May 10th.

The torch, made by Coventry firm Premier Sheet Metal, which is part of the Premier Group who are sponsoring the Coventry Charity Football Cup Final at the Ricoh Arena on April 27, will be lit by sunlight at the Temple of Hera in Olympia on May 10th.

After a relay around Greece, the torch will be officially handed over to the organisers of the London Games on May 17th before being flown by BA to Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Culdrose, near Helston in Cornwall.

The torch will go on a relay of seventy UK towns and cities including Coventry on Sunday July 1st where there will be a civic ceremony before thanks to 8,000 torch bearers, the torch will arrive at the Olympic Stadium in Straford, East London for the official start of the games on July 27th.
