City Supporter Rocks The Ricoh

Coventry City supporter Anthony Harty played the Ricoh Auditorium in Coventry tonight as a member of The Selecter,

Fronted by the Queen Of Ska Pauline Black, as Gaps Hendrickson lovingly refers to her, the Coventry gig was the last night of their twenty date 'String Theory Tour 2013'- before the band set off to tour the USA.

The band remains as ever political as they were back in the halcyon days of 1979 when The Selecter and The Specials were at the forefront of a 2-Tone movement which was taking Britain, Europe and America by storm.

Indeed a number of songs on the String Theory album including 667 (The Neighbour Of The Beast) which is in response to the actions of some in the media and London's Burning, convey some of Pauline Black's well documented and well respected thoughts on the social system in this country.

The one thing about 2-Tone is that it encourages everyone to dance and there was plenty of dancing as the Selecter took to the stage and launched into The Avengers.

Songs from The String Theory which Pauiine says is an imaginary piece of string which links the old and the new were intersperced with songs from other albums including the much loved "Celebrate The Bullet, which was interupted by the house lights coming on mid-song.

The classic "Last Train To Skaville", went down a storm as did James Bond before the big hits of Three Minute Hero, Missing Words and On My Radio, had the crowd demanding more songs to dance to.

The encore duly obliged with Carry Me Bring Home and Too Much Pressure which features a burst of the brilliant Pressure Drop, covered by many including The Clash.

The final song was 667 Neighbour Of The Beast and saw The Selecter joined on stage for a dance by Talisman, who had been their support band throughout the tour.

It went down very well and The Selecter had given fans from their home city and those who travelled a memorable and hugely enjoyable set.
