Casino Up To The Public

Culture Minister Tessa Jowell has said it is up to the public if they want "super casino's" like the one proposed at the new Arena. A second reading of the Gambing Bill was passed by a majority of only 74 in Parliament late last night. In a well debated motion, fears were voiced that towns or cities which had them could find an incrrease in crime and that they should only be be at seaside resorts such as Blackpool which had lobbied hard for a change in the law. Tessa Jowell said "It puts power firmly in the hands of local communities. "New casinos will only come to their area if they want them. Full stop. "I know passions are running high.".

However, citizens of Coventry & Warwickshire are unlikely to get a say as to whether they want the The Isle Of Capri casino due to be built at the new Arena to go ahead as too many Council members, MP's and others including Coventry City and the Alan Higgs Trust have a vested interest in the Casino having sold the land to the American backed company.
