Campaign For Arena Rail Station Stepped Up

Last updated : 28 October 2005 By Covsupport
Coventry City Councillors joined forces with Coventry City supporters to support plans for a railway station at the Arena. The City Council have had funds in place for a station but the Strategic Rail Authority have so far blocked the scheme with whimsical excuses.

Part of the campaign today saw a train bound for Nuneaton via Coundon,Foleshill and Bedworth, driven by a Coventry City supporter, leave Coventry station at 1.06pm with Council members and supporters on board. Those on the train waved to the crowd gathered by the NTL stand as it flew past the new home of the Sky Blues in a gesture to show how silly not having a station at the stadium was.

One of the Sky Blues fans who made the return journey to Nuneaton was Paul Smith,a Coventry City supporter of 36 years. Mr Smith told Covsupport:" We are desperate for this station to go ahead. It is a must which live easier for City supporters, away fans, those who close to the ground or want to go shopping at the Arena Park. "Everything is in place and the sooner we get the train station the better."
