TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR RESERVES 1-0 COVENTRY CITY RESERVES BY KEV MONKS

A wonder goal from Jonnie Jackson was the only difference between League winners Tottenham Hotspur and City Reserves.

Alan Cork named a side which included top scorer Craig Reid. The twenty year old striker had been on loan at Conference strugglers Tamworth but had trained throughout the spell with City.

Stuart Giddings got another outing to help his bid for fitness whilst Kevin Thornton added a bit of experience to an otherwise regular Sky Blues side.

Spurs boss Clive Allen and his assistant Pat Holland again fielded a strong side with Goran Bunjevevic,Tom Huddlestone and former Sky Blue Jonnie Jackson.

With former Sky Blue Calum Davenport in a packed stand at Stevenage Borough's Broadhall Way, Lee Barnard and Dean Marney had early chances whilst Lynch playing as a left winger caused problems firing wide and in the 11th minute winning a corner.

Spurs were forced to make a change in the 18th minute when Joe Martin, son of Alvin, the former West Ham defender, limped off and was replaced by Marcel McKie.

In the 34th minute, The City supporters felt that the Sky Blues should have had a penalty when Craig Reid raced through only to be brought down by Spurs keeper Tommy Forecast. As Reid was going away from goal, referee Mr Evetts awarded a goal kick.

Impressing the crowd were both number eights. Kevin Thornton was at the heart of everything as was Tom Huddlestone for Spurs in a contest that saw both sides give as good as they got.

Stuart Giddings had a fiery contest with Dean Marney throughout the first half and was replaced at half-time by Liam Davis.
Like the first half,City started off positively. midfielder Lee Hildreth sent a rebound just over in the 53rd minute when Tommy Forecast's fluffed his clearance under pressure from Paul McCrink.

It was always going to take something special to beat a rigid City defence with Stuart Wall and Rikki Bains having a fine game and in the 57th minute, the ball fell from Jonnie Jackson, who hit a volley you cannot legislate for, high into the net from the edge of the area.
Thornton then had a corner cleared off the line before Cork used his two remaining substitutes with twenty minutes to go.

Spurs piled on the pressure with Tuffey making a tremendous save from a Marney volley.
In the dying stages,City were unfortunate not to have snatched a draw when Craig Reid netted late on with a good finish, unfortunately,Lourougnon was adjudged to have been outside.

City may have lost to Spurs who were presented with the FA Premier Reserve League South title after the game but they can take many positives from an excellent performance.
