AEI Rugby have won the Coventry Charity Cup  after a 3-1 victory over Woodlands WMC at the Ricoh Arena.
 
This all Coventry Alliance fixture was action from the start with a goal after only twenty one seconds when Halim Halim got the ball on his right, cut in and drove a shot into the bottom corner of the net.
 
Woodlands forced an eighth minute corner but that was cleared and four minutes later, Woodies keeper Steve Brook had to be alert to deal with an audacious 25 yard lob, which the keeper caught on the line.
 
AEI had a good chance just before the half mark but that went sailing wide.
 
In the 32nd minute, Jimmy Smith, got in a shot inside the area which Steve Brook did well to save with his legs.
 
Things remained tight as the game went into the second half.
 
AEI had Vince win them a 56th minute corner and five minutes later, the midfielder crossed and there was Jimmy Smith at the far post to head into the net and put AEI further ahead.
 
Both side made changes before AEI won a corner which Brook superbly punched away.
 
More changes followed before Woodlands were awarded a penalty in the 73rd minute. Up-stepped Jai Stanley and the former Bedworth United player set up a grandstand finish for the last sixteen and a bit minutes.
 
AEI won a corner with ten minutes left and attacked five minutes later, a cross from the left picked out Jimmy Smith who headed AEI into a 3-1 lead.
 
In stoppage time, AEI Rugby hit the bar and held on to the ball to make sure they won the Coventry Charity Football Cup.
