Tim Fisher, Steve Waggott, Ken Deluded, SISU, Geoffrey Robinson, Bryan Richardson, Ray Ranson, Andy Thorn, I hope you are all pleased with your efforts as in all my 43 years of watching Coventry City, I have never felt so low as I did tonight watching the Sky Blues go down to a 4-1 defeat at Shrewsbury Town.
Over 500 City supporters including many people I have had the pleasure knowing for years, spent time, good money and effort to get to this neat little ground in Salop and like every other game this season were badly let down by a club seemingly on a spiralling ride to oblivion.
Richard Shaw, who has joined the list of former Crystal Palace players who have proved they as managers cannot provide Coventry City with success, fielded an unchanged team yet again.
The game was not three minutes old when,in their first attack, former City youngster Jermaine Grandison, who put in a good performance, won a corner. That was flapped at by Murphy and Darren Jones was able to head in.
The City fans, some of whom had spotted Ray Ranson in the pub, fumed and tempers raged again in the ninth minute when Murphy flapped at a free kick and it was only a good clearance by Jordan Clarke that prevented a second goal.
That second goal came in the 20th minute when a Paul Parry free kick took a deflection off Matt Richards and went in on Murphy's right post.
The mood amongst the City support who were checking the main stand to see who was with Fisher and Waggott was now very, very downbeat. Supporters were arguing amongst themselves, whilst on the pitch, it was the team in blue and yellow who were in total control.
Then half time came and the news that the Daily Mail were claiming Mark Robins had got the job, whilst Shaw in his last forty five minutes, send on Billy Daniels and John Fleck.
The news hardly inspired anyone in the stand and did not have a great effect on the pitch as
Shrewsbury had a goal ruled out in the 53rd minute for offside but eight minutes later, they were gifted a goal when Edjenguele who was all over the place fouled and referee Dean Mohareb awarded a penalty.
Matt Richards beat Murphy easily and in the 64th minute, some of the 500 strong City support were heading for home when Marvin Morgan raced through to score.
David McGoldrick, again City's best hope for a goal, had a header cleared and a shot blocked.
Then finally, there was something to cheer when Gary McSheffrey was fouled by Grandison and the Sky Blues were awarded a penalty.
The players argued over who was going to take it. John Fleck eventually grabbed the ball and converted the 74th minute penalty.
City had a penalty appeal for a handball denied in the 81st minute and McSheffrey had a stoppage time piledriver pushed over before the despondant City support who, to their credit, gave the team more backing than they probably deserved, could get away from yet another Sky Blue nightmare.
