Coventry City hammered Bury with a 6-0 demolition at the Ricoh Arena,

On Legends Day with the likes of Brian Kilcline, Bill Glazier and Ian Wallace watching on, City took on a Bury side which had six former City players in the starting line up

City attacked straight away with an Armstrong shot being pushed away by Ian Lawlor for a corner.

That came in and there was Chris Stokes to swep home from six yards against a Bury side in a slate grey kit.

Eight minutes later, City had a free kick which Joe Cole sent right into the mixer for Baily Cargill to scoop home from close range, much to the delight of the loanee from AFC Bournemouth.

Then it was three in the 16th minute when James Maddison went down and got up after the free kick to drill a low shot from twenty yards into the net.

A foul in the 19th minute, brought another free kick which Maddison, who was getting hacked to pieces, curled just wide.

With the Bury defence all over the place, Armstrong made a great run before it was cleared as was a Murphy run.

Tom Soares  was finally cautioned in the 26th minute for his fifth foul on Maddison as City continued to press forward.

John Fleck had a shot deflected for a 31st minute corner and Murphy who was not even concentrating turned and shot just wide wide.

Bury, who had forced one save out of Charles-Cook won a free kick when led to the much abused Leon Clarke hitting a shot which went out for a corner that was quickly cleared.

Bury had a 39th minute corner . Chris Stokes cleared and just missed Maddison, who watched as Reece Brown picked up a 41st minute caution.

Two minutes later and City pressed this time and John Fleck got the ball twenty five yards out and lashed it past the hapless Lawlor on his left hand side to see City 4-0 up at half-time.

Over forty City players were unveiled at half-time and received good support from both sets of supporters as Bury made their final changes bringing on former City player Danny Pugh and former loanee Peter Clarke against a City side now playing a 3-4-3 formation.

City put together a ton of passes in two great moves before Danny Pugh came in with a heavy tackle on Jacob Murphy.

That was not punished with a card and neither was a foul by Leon Clarke on the hour mark.

A corner for City followed before City had a fifth goal in the 68th minute when Adam Armstrong raced through and scored with a lovely finish.

Two minutes later and Armstrong was through again to score with another smart finish.

With City now 6-0 up, Tony Mowbray sent on the glove wearing and short sleeved Ruben Lameiras and Andy Rose.

Leon Clarke sent a tame header ar Reice Charles-Cook as choruses of Jimmy Hill's Sky Blue Army rang round the ground.

Bury won a corner with ten to go, Rose cleared and then Jack Stephens who like the rest of his team-mates had an excellent game, made another clearance.

Andy Tutte's name was added to this list of bookings in the 83rd minute before there was a standing ovation and round of applause in the 87th minute for Jimmy Hill who most certainly would have approved of this performance and victory.
