Coventry City got 2016 off to a great start with a 5-0 win at Crewe Alexandra.

On a wet afternoon at Gresty Road and with hundreds of City supporters locked out, the Sky Blues had Adam Armstrong back in their starting line up.

City were straight on the attack and took the lead in the eleventh minute when Adam Armstrong got through and tucked the ball powerfully into the net.

In the 26th minute, Armstrong worked well and the ball came back to Jacob Murphy to send a stunning curler into the net.

Two minutes later and City had a penalty after Vincelot was fouled. Armstrong grabbed the ball off Maddison and slammed it home for City's third.

A minute before the break and Adam Armstrong completed his hat-trick when he ran on to a Haynes ball and kept his cool to see City 4-0 up at half-time.

Crewe had more of the play in the second half but City who gave a last outing to Ryan Kent, defended when they needed to and finished off with a lovely goal from Jacob Murphy in the 84th minute.
