Wood injury worse than feared

The injury Coventry defender Richard Wood picked up in training last week is worse than originally feared and could see the 24 year old centre half sidelined for up to three weeks.

The news comes at the same time as fellow defender Leon Barnett is out suspended, but 'City boss Chris Coleman isn't unduly worried. He explained about Wood's hip injury, saying, “Woody could be out for a couple of weeks, which is a real blow.”

“He has got a muscle tear in his hip and worst-case scenario he could be out for three weeks, so we will see how he goes, but it is bad timing for both players because the squad was just looking nice and thick and now both players are not going to be available, certainly for this weekend.”

Although the loss of two important defenders does come as a blow to 'City's remote chance of securing a play off place, Coleman is upbeat about possible alternatives.

“With Woody’s injury and Barney’s suspension it has come at a bad time for us, but we will be alright,” said. Coleman.

“Ben Turner played in the reserves against Forest yesterday so that will give him a bit of fitness. Marcus Hall and Chris Hussey played as well so we can always move Martin Cranie across to centre-back, so we have got options.”
