Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has said that he would like to keep Gary Gardner as a Sky Blues player after January 3rd when the Villa player's loan is due to expire.

Speaking to the CT about Gardner who scored eight and a half minutes into his debut at Brighton on Saturday, Thorn said: He’s got some quality, there is no question about that and we want to keep him.

“We have seen what he is about but we don’t control what happens when his loan is up.

"We just hope that we can make the boy feel welcome and that Villa sign more midfield players in January.

“We will look after him and he’s enjoying himself and long may that continue.

"He’s fitted in with the group and the boys like what they see.

"They are all talking about him and it has given everyone a lift.

“There are a few others out there that I would have loved to have brought in as well to bolster the squad but unfortunately that wasn’t to be but we are more than happy with Gary.”
