Coventry City CEO Steve Waggott has said that he would step down from his role if it was in the best interests of the club.

Many City supporters on social media yesterday were concerned that Mr Waggott was not the right man to be appointing a new manager.

Speaking to Shane O'Connor on BBC Coventry & Warwickshire, Waggott, who admitted that recruitment was not the best last summer said: "I have spent weeks analysing the lack of form and I have said to the players and staff that it is a time for everyone and that includes me being at the helm of the club to look in the mirror and say what could I have done differently, what could I have done better and what mistakes have we made along the way.

"The club has to be paramount, executives, owners, players etc come and go but the fans are there for ever. My whole barometer is around the fans and their support, fans thnking that I am doing the right decisions at the right time. If I lose all that then I have to question where I am in my professional career and where we are as a club which is most important, so yes I would question myself."
