Coventry City CEO Steve Waggott has said that he is hoping for a reaction from the players following the sacking of Steven Pressley on Monday.

Mr Waggott told the Coventry Telegraph:  “Hopefully we’ll get a response.

“When I spoke to them they reacted in the way players do – they were very quiet.

“They worked under Steven and highly respected the guy for his hard work and meticulous approach but they obviously know the results haven’t been good enough.

“I told them they are the only people who can do it. They’re the ones who cross the white line and take on the challenge on Saturday afternoon. No matter how much work we do behind the scenes, that’s what we’re judged on.

“There’s been a huge amount of work over the last three years on different challenges but it doesn’t count for anything if we lose on a Saturday. We’re all judged by it and it’s about time they stood up.”
