Waggott Denies Christie Price Tag

Coventry City Development Officer Steve Waggott has denied that a price tag of £600,000 had been placed on Cyrus Christie.

The People on Sunday, claimed that the price has been levied on the defender who is out of contract with the Sky Blues on June 30th.

Speaking to Andy Turner of the Coventry Telegraph, Mr Waggott said: “It’s not true.

“Obviously he’s been with us since he was eight and therefore if we can’t agree a price with another club then compensation kicks in for the 14 years he’s been with us.

“It’s easier if you can agree a deal with another club so we’re just waiting to hear from his agent as to who they may have interested and at what level the deal could be struck at, or whether it will have to go to a tribunal.”

There is a deal on the table for Christie, according to Mr Waggott, who added: “All along to maintain your compensation rights you have to keep giving the player an offer, so the offer’s there,” revealed Waggott, “but I get the feeling that, mentally, Cyrus is checked out.

“He’s been with the club for a long time and I think he’s looking for new horizons and, to be fair, sometimes there comes a time for people to move on to create a pathway for other players like Jordan Willis and Aaron Phillips.”
