Venus Will Help Me Stretch The Budget - Mowbray

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that Mark Venus will help him stretch City's budget.

Mowbray has brought in his mate Venus as a technical director and speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner what what he think Venus brings to the party, he said:  "I think his huge strength is his financial brain and the way he tinkers with numbers and works things around. I think he can work closely with Steve Waggott and myself around the budget to help the football team on the pitch.

“I have talked long and hard about the infrastructure we need to put in place and see how we can make the money work best for us and make the footballers feel that this is a special club and special place.

“Historically the teams with the biggest budgets have been the teams at the top of the league and so I can understand the logic of putting every penny you have got into the pitch, but I also think you have got to look after the team on the pitch and make sure the training facility is better than it was.

“So it’s a fine line and Mark can help me stretch the budget to get the best on the pitch as well as putting the infrastructure behind it.

“We are all aware we haven’t got millions to spend and can’t go out and buy the best players. Bristol might have done it and we won’t be in a position to do that so we have to make every pound stretch to get the best we can for the money we have got.

“Mark will enjoy his new role which is a fresh challenge for him. And hopefully we’ll bear fruits with that.”
