Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that he has given responsibility to Mark Venus to bring in players

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Mowbray who is expecting Chris Stokes, Ivor Lawton and Reda Johnson to sign new deals before Wednesday, said: “Mark’s three or four weeks into his new job and I think he’s settled in fine.

“As we move forward those types of deals will fall under his remit. At the minute they’re down to Steve Waggott. I let him know about the players I think can do a job and he’s the one who has a relationship with their agents.

“I don’t think Steve has worked with a technical director before so it’s just a question of finding the common ground for everybody and what is expected of each role.

“I want Mark to get really involved in the potential signing of players and the homework that goes behind the signing of them, communicating with the other clubs and speaking to their directors and chief executives or agents to lessen the burden on Steve who has a million things to do around tickets, stadiums and everything.

“It’s a marriage that needs to be cemented into place and I think Mark will grow into the job. He’s always been my assistant manager and I’m utilising him in a different role here and I am sure in the longer term it will work perfectly.”
