Coventry City midfielder Michael Doyle, hopes to only miss a couple of games when the new Championship season starts on Saturday August 9th.

Doyle has recently had an ankle and hernia operation and was expected to be out for four months. However, the way,Doyle is healing, he hopes to make a lot quicker return.

Said Doyle to the CT: "I have got a target in my mind and as long as things go to plan I feel I won't be far behind the other lads."

He needed an operation in Basingstoke to sort out an ankle injury and commented; It happened one day in training just before Christmas and my ankle just seized up out of nowhere. "I had a scan and it revealed some bone floating about and a micro fracture resulting in the need for an op which could keep me out for four months.

"The hernia was a recurrence of a problem I had had before and that was pretty straight forward, but because of the situation we were in towards the end of the season I wanted to keep playing on.

"The plan was to get them done as soon as we were safe but, obviously, it went to the last game which wasn't ideal. The hernia is fine and that only takes eight to 10 days anyway but it is the ankle that is going to take the time.

"I spoke to the specialist straight after and he said it was the worst case scenario, meaning four months out, and although it is really disappointing, I had prepared myself for that.

"It has meant being on crutches for six weeks and I have about another eight days left and I am off them, and then it is a case of building the ankle up. But it feels really good at the moment and I feel ahead of schedule already.

"I am usually a quick healer and have a good level of fitness so, hopefully, I will only miss one or two games. But I know I have got to be 100 per cent and I won't be taking any chances.

"I am desperate to get back and, along with the rest of the lads, put last season behind us."
