Time To Toughen Up - Wright

Coventry City captain Stephen Wright has told his team mates to toughen up as they prepare to face Bristol City at the Ricoh Arena next Saturday.

City were beaten 3-0 at Blackpool on Saturday and the players had a team clear the air meeting after the game to try and sort things out.

"Since I have been here, it is was the worst we have played and the poorest side I have been involved in for a game," said Wright to the CT. "We had a chat after the game amongst ourselves to get it out in the open, which was good.

"We had to clear the air because you can't let it go on for two weeks.

"The frustrating thing is we have got to mull it over for two weeks when we just want to get out there and show what you are worth again after the drubbing we had and give it our best shot.

"This league is physical and tough. "The gaffer wants us to play and at the same time he wants us to do the nitty-gritty stuff by winning challenges, winning balls, tackling and heading it, so you have to be set up right in this league.

"I played for Stoke and one day I was the smallest player, and I am 6ft tall, and that's how they are set up.

"They don't want you to play anywhere in their half. They get the ball down and play diagonals to the two big lads and that's what a lot of the tactics are in this league.

"Some teams play to their strengths because that's all they have got, so we are going to come up against that a lot.

"We have got to try to combine the two, but first and foremost we have to do the nitty-gritty stuff and keep things tight for the first 15 minutes. You need to win your battle against the player you are up against and then go from there and hopefully your physical strength and attributes come through as the game goes on."
